For me, the moon touching the top of the trees is bothersome. |

Beautifully placed in the frame, sharp as a tack and no conflict here in the colors. |

I feel the reflections are competing with the giraffe...would like to have seen more of the animal but kept the reflections...Unusual composition and I commend the maker for seeing it.... |
Mountain Gorilla with Twins
This is only the 5th reported set of twins in Mountain Gorillas.
Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
Nikon D7000, Nikon 70-200 f2.8 lens@70mm, f5, 1/160 sec, ISO 1600, -0.3 exp compensation, handheld
After a particularly arduous hike through dense forest, up and down the side of a slippery, steep ravine, in the rain, the mountain gorillas finally settled down to eat nettles. As I was photographing this mother with her twins, the silverback chased her off so that he could eat from the nettles she had chosen. She vocalized loudly but moved on to a new spot. In this photo you can feel her tension as she glances sideways at the silverback. The twins appear blissfully unaware of the conflict.

This is probably a little too tightly cropped, otherwise grand. |

Great nature story, well placed in frame, all three penguin chicks are sharp as a tack. |

Forster's Tern
Sterna forsteri
This Forster's Tern was repeatedly hovering for just a moment and then diving for fish. I photographed for over an hour, moving my tripod forward, backward and side to side until I finally got this head on shot. I was quite pleased with how close to symmetric the wing position was.

I thought I had commented on this one. It is almost impossible to catch this moment. It is one of my favorite of all the images presented and I am sad that it didn't make it into the top 12. |
Upper Yosemite Falls with Rainbow
Around 7:30 AM the rising sun caught the mist from Upper Yosemite Falls and produced this lovely rainbow. When I saw this isolated tree offset by the colors behind it I was drawn to photograph the changing colors behind it.

I too, feel that it is an arranged scene, however, it is very well done, but not a true Travel image...great in OPEN color... |

I love the blossoms. The color is very true. I find the background is not blurry enough. It is a definite distraction from the main subject branch. |
